Simple Illustrations

If you are in the process of writing stories for children then you should know that there would come a stage when you would have to litter the book with simple illustrations. The reason why you need simple illustrations in your children’s book is that children need pictures to be the starting point for their imagination and children’s storybooks with illustrations can help a child’s fantasies grow. However, this is only possible with good illustrations. A good illustration is supposed to be able to, as mentioned above, facilitate the child’s fantasies. Here are three things that good simple illustrations should be able to capture.

  1. Emotions of the characters:
If the scene has characters in it then good simple illustrations should be able to reproduce the emotions of the characters, according to the juncture at which the story is at.
  2. Theme of setting:
Apart from the emotions of the characters, good simple illustrations should also be able to recreate the theme of the setting in such a way that the child can immediately imagine himself or herself in the same place. If the scene is supposed to be joyous then it should show extreme happiness and if it’s supposed to be sinister then it should create dread.
  3. Gist of the moment:
In totality, simple illustrations are only truly successful and useful if they can reproduce the real gist of the whole scene in comprehensive detail.

Good simple illustrations can change the way your short story is perceived by the reader which is why you should pay a lot of attention to this aspect of the whole process.
