New Ad Of Mintacular Chewing Gum Makes Fun Of Apple
Stride Gum is the latest company to mimic Apple in its recent ad campaign for its just-launched Mintacular flavor. The brand released the above online video, featuring gold medal-winning snowboarder Shaun White, in the latest celebrity-endorsed chewing experience. Unlike Apple’s ads, however, the Mintacular parody uses actors aside from White. From the moment you pick it up, you instinctively know how to use it, one actor says. There are no rules at all when it comes to holding it. You do not need to change as you are fit for the product. Mintacular also posted an Apple-esque billboard in New York’s SoHo neighbourhood, with only the words “08.13.12” written in black on a white background, which The New York Times reports had people fooled into thinking an Apple product launch was coming. The billboard was replaced last week with this ad, featuring Shaun White: The ad is not the first thing that goes in your mouth to parody Apple a March 2011 Orabrush ad got a lot of attention for spoofing Apple iPad 2 ads.
The ad features gold medal-winning snowboarder Shaun White as ambassador of the advanced celebrity-endorsed chewing experience”. Mimicking Apple, the commercial also touts the product as defining the ‘sports gum’ category. Alongside White, a cast of actors plays executive roles at Stride including Bob Sheeth, Co-Senior vice Executive President of Mint-based Hardware and Scot Samson, Co-Senior Vice Executive President of Sports Gum Ideation & Development. In similar fashion to Apple’s own campaign slogans, like the new iPad’s ‘Revolutionary’ Retina display, Stride brands Mintacular as ‘Intelligicity’.
