Animations are mostly stereotyped as an entertainment package for children. Most people are unaware that there is more to animation than just making children laugh. They are very useful in creating special effects for movies that are enjoyed by adults as well. They are also used in advertisements and computer games. Animations, either 2D or 3D, are functional for business solutions like websites and corporate presentations also. Most entrepreneurs make use of these graphics on their websites to attract more traffic to their site. In fact there are more uses for animations found with each passing day therefore there is a growing demand in this space. As the demand keeps growing, the Indian animation industry is also booming, especially in the 2D field.
Let us first differentiate between 2D and 3D animations. One of the most prominent differences between the two is the source of movement. As 2D are drawn, either by hand or with the help of a computer, the movement is shown by a change in position in each frame. When these are played back rapidly, it seems like the picture is moving. For 3D animations, each character has a skeleton that is used to move the character. Another difference is that 3D can only be made with computers while 2D can be made by hand and computers. Although 2D animations can be very time consuming, it is still rapidly growing due to its inexpensiveness. Also with the advent of computerization of the field, the process has also shortened to a considerable amount.
